Interdisciplinary educational program «Sustainable and Renewable Energy:
electrical and microelectronics engineering»

Speciality 141 — «Electric Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics» and 176 — «Micro- and Nanosystem Technology».

DescriptionDescription

Sustainable and Renewable Energy: electrical and microelectronics engineering is a unique interdisciplinary educational program in the specialities 141 «Electric Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics» and 176 «Micro- and Nanosystem Technology». It aims to train masters capable of researching, designing and implementing the latest technologies of renewable energy, in particular photovoltaic, based on fundamental knowledge and practical skills in the theory of electrical engineering, micro- and nanoelectronics to ensure the sustainable development of the energy. The training of such specialists at the department began in 2022.

Master’s educational program

Master’s educational program «Sustainable and Renewable Energy: electrical and microelectronics engineering» is created for students of higher education who aspire to become the best specialists in the field of sustainable energy. Currently, bachelors in renewable energy, in particular photovoltaics, are trained either as physicists or as electricians. The goal of this interdisciplinary educational program is to train a specialist who has a holistic vision of the entire process of electrical energy conversion, with a main focus on photovoltaics. The program covers all issues from the physics of semiconductor converters, obtaining maximum power, energy accumulation, energy conversion and delivery to the grid, interaction with the power system to supporting the sustainable development of renewable energy.

The program provides an opportunity to further study in graduate school at the scientific qualification level of PhD both in speciality 141 «Electric Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics» and 176 «Micro- and Nanosystem Technology».

Uniqueness of the program:

  • Compliance with the modern vision of energy development
  • Double qualification in specialities 141+176
  • Synergy of two experienced scientific schools of the University
  • Presence of a modern material base
  • The presence of levelling educational trajectories
  • Implementation of team design

The main courses studied within the master’s educational program «Sustainable and Renewable Energy: electrical and microelectronics engineering»:

  • Physical materials science of semiconductor devices
  • Power electronics for renewable energy systems
  • Properties and modern research methods of semiconductor devices
  • Physical bases of technology for micro- and nanoelectronics
  • Design and development of renewable energy systems
  • Virtual power plants
  • Semiconductor solar cells
  • Electricity transmission systems
  • Development of the modern solutions and methods of certification of solar cells
  • Relay protection&automation systems and safe operation of renewable energy plants
  • Design and development of renewable energy systems
  • Smart Grids technologies and power system digitalization
  • Management of renewable energy projects
  • Combined conversion of solar energy
  • Computer simulation of energy storage system operating modes
  • Computer modelling and design of solar energy systems

Master's graduates can successfully work in power and electrical engineering companies, as well as renewable energy scientific and design companies. They also have the right to continue their studies at the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education in the department's postgraduate program.
